The Lough is home to five of Ireland’s species of bats. Join Conor Kelleher, one of Ireland’s bat specialists for an evening walk around The Lough to learn about these shy mysterious creatures. Cork County Bat Group in partnership with Cork City Council will also launch the new bat information panels at the Lough.
Meet in front of the Hawthorn Bar on Hartland’s Avenue at 7.00pm.

Cork City Council in association with the Cork County Bat Group offers a fascinating time learning about those little creatures of the night sky. Meet outside the Hawthorn Bar at 7.45pm. Conor Kelleher, one of Ireland's experts on bats, leads a walk around the Lough to meet its batty inhabitants. Wear warm clothing & bring a torch.
- Dusk Bat Walk along Glengarra's Forest Trails

- Venue: Glengarra Forest Recreation Area, Co. Tipperary
This event is a guided bat walk on the recently upgraded trail network around Coillte's Glengarra Forest.
Cork County Bat Group, along with Coillte, will be out after dusk with bat detectors picking the echolocations of the various bat species present in the area. Pipistrelles, Whiskered & Brown Long Ears have all been picked up in the past. Ideal for wildlife enthusiasts & children.
Suitable for all ages. Kids will love it! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Wrap up warmly & bring a torch.
This is a weather dependent event. Bats don’t like to come out in the rain! If unsure, please check with the event organiser in advance.
How to get there:
From Cahir, continue southwest along the main Dublin to Cork road ( N8 ) for approx. 14 kms. Glengarra Wood is situated on the right hand side adjacent to the main road. When coming from Cork it is located approx. 14 kms also from Mitchelstown, on the left hand side of the road ( N8 ). There are Coillte signs when approaching from both directions. The entrance, which is also signposted, is at a gate lodge. The car park and picnic site is just 50 metres inside the entrance.
Meeting point: Car park in the forest park.
Time: 7.20 pm sharp.

Meet outside the Hawthorn Bar at 9:15 pm.

Tina Aughney will present a overview of the methodology. This will be followed by a trip to the Lee to conduct a field survey.
- Bat Detector Workshop

Bat Conservation Ireland's hugely popular Bat Detector Workshop which is held over a weekend in early June will be held in 2008 in Rathdrum, County Wicklow.
This is a training course designed to introduce you to Irish bats. Talks and tutorials in bat identification and survey methods are held during the day, but a large component of the course is night-time field work to help gain an understanding of how identify bat species using detectors. Suitable for beginners and those wishing to update their bat detecting skills.

- Biodiversity Week - Lough bat walk

For Biodiversity Week and as part of the Cork County Bat Group's Lough bat box programme, the CCBG are holding a public bat walk at the Lough in Cork City on Thursday 22nd May.
We will be meeting just after sunset at 9.45pm outside the Hawthorn Bar. All are welcome. Members of the CCBG will be on hand with bat detectors to help identify any bats seen.
